How to start a
yacht project?
While it is possible to walk
through the door of a shipyard and order a megayacht – just like one
would order a car – it is not the best way to start the process. A number of
choices will already be made without consideration (e.g. building material). Ideally the first door to walk
through would be that of a naval architect, a yacht designer, or a project
management bureau. The first few rounds of the “design spiral” should be carried out independently of a building
yard and preferably without time pressure, as this will be the blueprint for
the yacht project. A good tender package
is composed by different parties and should include: - Specification (narrative
description of the yacht to be built) - General arrangement (drawings
with layout and styling) - Preliminary structural
arrangement - Preliminary engine room
arrangement & shaftline - Preliminary interior design Once the tender package is complete, it can be sent out to appropriate
yards for bidding. The more christalised and detailed this package is, the more
correct the yards can estimate their pricing – and that is in everyone’s best
interest. The better the preliminary
work is carried out, the less “Provisional cost sums” and “Change orders”
will be stowed upon the project. Innomare can carry out the naval
architecture involved and coordinate the work with our partners to come to a
good tender package. |
